At the Greater Lawrence Sanitary District (GLSD), protecting the Merrimack against untreated wastewater is our mission. It’s what motivates every one of us as we search for more ways – and better ways – to handle wastewater and biosolids management across our district.
Our Story
In five major steps, we treat wastewater using a responsible treatment process that maintains the health of the Merrimack river.
Transforming biosolids and food waste into fertilizers and fuel, we take the lead on reducing the carbon footprint of Greater Lawrence.
At GLSD, our commitment to capital improvements and to advocate for resources that will allow us to continue to reduce Combined Sewage Overflow (CSOs) events demands that we keep our communities informed about the needs of a changing tomorrow.
From converting food waste to fuel to maintaining sewer infrastructure, it’s important that residents understand the what, why, and how of these complex systems – what they can reasonably be expected to deliver, and their practical limitations, particularly in the face of populations shifts and climate change.
